Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forum"Bitter, broke and hated by his former allies: how Bernie Sanders made himself irrelevant"
Somewhere along the way, as Clinton won the popular vote in blowout after blowout and her lead became so large that it was clear she was going to be the nominee, Sanders decided that wasnt good enough for him. Maybe his craven advisors had done such a good job of fooling him into thinking he was winning when he was really losing, he honestly thought the nomination was somehow stolen from him. Or maybe his ego just couldnt handle the fact that millions more voters chose Clinton than chose him. But in either case, hes now dissolved into a full scale meltdown, and hes alienating just about every ally he ever had.
The last straw is, of course, Bernies sudden desire to debate Donald Trump in California. Nevermind that Trump was making a joke on a comedy show; as usual Bernie was too oblivious to realize he was being manipulated and he publicly accepted it as if it were a real invitation. Its one final reminder of just how badly Bernie would have lost to Trump in a general election: Trump is the guy who says pull my finger and Bernie is the guy who keeps falling for it. Predictably, Trump put out a statement today saying that such a debate will absolutely not happen. The joke is on Sanders, as always....."

(521 posts)They had Jimmy Kimmel make the proposal to Trump when he was on the show. Why do people forget that or the papers don't mention it? I just had a couple BernieBros call me a liar, because I said that the Trump/Sanders debate was Sanders' idea.

(51,389 posts)Only the District of Columbia will remain and it has only 20 delegates up for grabs. After June 7th he might be short 240 delegates of the pledged majority. And even if he got all 20 delegates from DC (highly unlikely. More likely Clinton wins most), he would still be short by a mile.

(5,070 posts)Kind of a pity really - he once was in a position to have a strong progressive voice after this election and into the future. He could have helped build something. Sadly for him, those days have passed now. He and the lovely Jane are destined to be no more than a footnote in the political history of this country.

(1,151 posts)Sanders has become a walking caricature of all the smears the Right hurls at movement progressives and it didn't have to be this way. Thank god he's not running in the GE, even if he wins, his term would be a trainwreck, we might get Trump in 2020 anyway, and he'd be the poster-boy for a new generation of awful stereotypes about people on the Left.
