A reminder of the Statement Of Purpose of The Hillary Clinton Room
This is a safe haven designed for Hillary Clinton supporters only. Criticism of Hillary or of her policies are not permitted in this room. If you wish to criticize her there are plenty of posts in GD that you can do this in.
The Statement Of Purpose of this room set forth by the hosts are clear. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1107672
If you post criticism of her you will be blocked from this room and you will not get a warning.
The hosts of this room do not like blocking but we dislike disruption even more. We have to think of the posters who use this room to discuss Hillary's accomplishments and spare them of any disruption.
If you get blocked or have been it is not personal but the Statement Of Purpose is clear. There is no reason why we in this room need to be disrupted. We may be a small traffic room but we are still a good thriving room nonetheless.
And please do not post in this thread to complain about our Statement Of Purpose.
Thank you,
Justin
The point is if you are not a supporter please don't post in here.

(71,265 posts)Nor should we. People need to read where they are posting.

On some mobile devices, when you're looking at posts on the Latest page, you can't tell what group the thread is in.
The Obama group finally did offer to remove blocked members from their group who had fallen down that rabbit hole.
It doesn't take much effort on the part of a host to post a warning asking for the offending post to be deleted within a certain amount of time or they will be blocked.
That would be the appropriate way to start off a democratic candidate's campaign effort...

(71,265 posts)We do it our way. And with the exception of one or two posters who were banned we got no complaints.
In fact most have been gracious and know it is not personal.
Thank you for your opinion but the hosts will continue to as we have.

(11,996 posts)The OP says "people need to read where they are posting" but DU is a platform with both frequent and sporadic posters, old hands and newbies, and the "Group" distinction is not immediately obvious... I used the site for years without ever even knowing there were groups with special rules. And you're right, even if you know about them, it's not always obvious you're "in" one, if you arrive via a latest/greatest board appearance.
Another solution, that would not require such active moderation (or instant bannings) could be that Groups who do not want to have to deal with "indiscrimate" participants (i.e. only want posters from people who are specifically choosing to be part of the Support environment) could be prevented from having their posts appear on the Latest or Greatest pages, where they are likely to draw from a pool that will include non-Supporters.

(11,996 posts)because of a post that appears on the greatest/latest page, that's the point.
And saying that people "need" to know this or "need" to make sure they check where they're posting is, I think, to some extent, unrealistic wishful thinking. As far as I recall, there's not even clear information about this policy provided when you register for the site. And looking at path bars is not typically something people do when reading web pages, even if you understand the siginificance of it, which not everyone does.
But sure, if you run the group, I assume you have the right to run it any way you want.
I just remember personally finding myself in a group without realizing it or knowing the rules, and know how easily it can happen. Unfortunately, the site is not set up to clearly inform you of those rules when you attempt to reply to a post in a Group, that would be helpful. Absent that, I think that "non-conforming" posters are at least as likely to be innocently participating in what they think is an open discussion, as they are to be trolls looking to stir the pot, and so it's a bit of a shame that they may get harsh treatment.
As I said, another possible solution could be prohibiting these threads from appearing on latest/greatest pages, so that the only people who see them are those who are specifically following the Group. But if you're going to make it easy for people to inadvertently find themselves reading a Group post, then I think it's not surprising that there will be a greater variety in the perspectives of people who will be likely to reply.

(3,041 posts)So apparently there's no place for me on DU right now. I guess I'm just gonna have to find a new site until the primaries are over.
Best of luck to you all, I'm not willing to stick around a place where it's ok to do what JDPriestly is doing, but not ok to call attention to it.
