Looks like Maduro is without a head of intelligence.

(111,417 posts)and maybe the new one won't be lying to him as much as the old one did.
The really huge demos aren't fascist in nature, they're more out of disgust for the economic shape the country is in, with the rich guys creating artificial shortages of daily necessities instead of shipping them out to stores.
However, if they do overturn Maduro, a fascist military dictatorship is likely to be what they'll get.
They're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

(6,837 posts)the opposition has little power. Venezuela can't set costs of imports from other countries, and they limit the supply of dollars to get imports and 70% + of their needs come from imports so until they diversify their economy and stabilize their currency they are screwed.

(2,035 posts)Most products in Venezuela are all imported, and most come from countries which are supporters of the Venezuelan government. And even in state-controlled supermarkets, a lot of products are running scarce. As far as I know, only the state has control over the production/importing, transport, and distribution of most products, and has also attempted controlling prices, which has only resulted in even more scarcity and inflation, forcing 2 devaluations of the bolivar in less than a year. This is the kind of shit that happens when you put a bus driver with no basic understanding of economics along with a bunch of other ex-military officials without proper knowledge of macroeconomics at the head of the state.
