Violence and crime in peace zones

------------------------------------

Peace zones were laid out in September 2013. The Vice-Ministry of Interior Policy and Security of the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace provided that local communities would manage the allocated spaces.

Only the term was left from the peace zones described in the reports. In the real life, though, everything is different. Local residents report that criminal gangs are those responsible for keeping control of the spaces and do not leave much leeway to security corps.

Following the slaughter in Ocumare del Tuy last month, the Cicpc national headquarters issued a notice to all sub-delegations reminding that officials "should not carry out any proceeding in the so-called peace zones."
