Circus Clown Cleared To Run For Mayor In Mexican City

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, June 1 (BERNAMA-NNN- EFE)--Lagrimita the clown can run for mayor of Guadalajara, the capital of the western Mexican state of Jalisco, the TEPJF electoral court said.

"We are revoking the resolution of the Jalisco Electoral Institute's General Council under which the independent mayoral candidacy for Guadalajara of the ticket headed by Guillermo Cienfuegos Perez was denied," the TEPJF said in a statement.

State election officials informed Cienfuegos Perez, who performs as Lagrimita, in April that he could not appear on the ballot because he lacked the required number of signatures to have a valid candidacy.

The clown needed to gather 23,887 signatures, representing 2 percent of registered voters, to get his name on the ballot.
