GUATEMALA CITY: Authorities in Guatemala have arrested three people, two of them police officers, in connection with the murder of two journalists.
Danilo Lopez, the local correspondent for Prensa Libre newspaper, and Federico Salazar, of Radio Nuevo Mundo, were killed on March 10 in a park in the southern municipality of Mazatenango.
In a statement Friday, prosecutors said the police were assigned to a personal protection unit.
The men were the vice president and secretary, respectively, of the recently created Suchitepequez Press Association. A third journalist was wounded in the attack.
Lopez recently had filed a complaint against a local mayor who had made death threats against him.
