Dissent in the Venezuelan "Bolivarian" Armed Forces

Rodríguez Cabello tried to lead the end of the year military salutation and this was shouted back by the soldiers
The Cooperator

Caracas, January 3. The so-called year-end salutation in the National Armed Forces, which took place on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, had a particular character. Regularly, it is offered by the President of the Republic or the Minister of Defense. However, this time it was given by Major General Alexis José Rodríguez Cabello, head of the Integral Defense Region (REDI -Capital).

According to Sebastiana Barráez, the Major General was dedicated to making several calls for attention. "Put out your chest!", "stand (at attention)!" "why do you show that demoralized attitude?", among others. But, the answer was not the most expected.

Several soldiers shouted: "Where are the (pork) legs?", "Where are the toys?" and "Where is the food?". "Rodriguez Cabello got upset and tried to locate where the shouting came from, but there was great confusion and murmur among those present. There was no way to locate one of those responsible," explained the journalists through a publication in Punto de Corte.

Venezuela has over 4000 Generals (mostly Cuban trained). The United States has a couple hundred scattered around 4 branches, and by law cannot have more than 310 Flag Officers throughout its entire military.

As of Feb. 29, 2016 there were 411 one stars, 299 two stars, 139 three stars, and 37 four-star active generals and admirals, with several more appointed recently. The ratio of officers in the military to the total force size has grown from 15.69% in 2000 to 17.54% in 2015."

Do you have a military background? Do you know what a FLAG OFFICER is?

My wife worked with "brigadier general" from the US Army Reserve. (My wife is a civilian. I am former 52nd Aviation Regiment, Flying Dragons). By reading Wikipedia, one might be led to believe that this O-7 leads an entire brigade... 4 battalions of about 4000 men. In reality, he leads no one.

He is an anesthesiologist. It is basically a title that gets him a bump in pay. Because in the US military, as an officer, you cannot be static. If you remain in one rank too long, you either you move up, or your retire. The was a colonel and those were his choices.

Soldiers providing military service are hungery in Anzoátegui barracks
They point out that they serve little food on the premises and that officials must bathe with water that is stored in drums
By THE NATIONAL WEB
JANUARY 4, 2018 06:00 PM | UPDATED ON JANUARY 04, 2018 18:22 PM

They denounce that soldiers of the 321th Battalion of the Caribbean "G / D Pedro Zaraza" of Barcelona, Anzoátegui state, render military service without adequate food.

The names of the relatives and the military were changed by the newspaper El Tiempo to avoid reprisals.

Ignacio Jiménez, 20 years old, lost 24 kilos since joining the battalion in October of last year. The mother of the military, Cecilia Jiménez, said her son lost weight because he feeds well in the barracks.

"The food is insufficient, the boys are going hungry and work in Bacazaraza," Cecilia said.

A companion of Jiménez, Anoldo Pérez, of 18 years of age, lost 15 kilos in three months. The military report that the food in the barracks consists of an arepa known to the soldiers as an "ostia", of approximately 80 grams, which is accompanied by one and a half sardine.

"For example, my breakfast today was an ostia with a little bit of cream cheese and a ladle of atol," said Perez. In the lunches and the dinners the feeding of the soldiers does not improve. Perez said that they serve "half a spoon of rice with a spoonful of chicken or a sardine."
