Oh, and back before corporations and rich people paid taxes commensurate with their wealth/profits, such that we had a great deal MORE 'disposable income' as a Nation.
We COULD be doing these sorts of things, which are likely to turn out to be hugely profitable for China, while also improving the lives of the people availing themselves of the energy being produced, and likely causing many of them to feel greater 'allegiance' to the Asian power than they would towards the US ...
But now that we are, as a country, basically run by Greedhead, Militaristic, Right-Wing Proto-Fascists, with no regard whatsoever for improving the lives of ANYONE except for the 1% (who's lives are already going swimmingly well), whether US citizens or not ... obviously, the US is not going to be doing so any time soon.
We're just going to enrich the GOP's benefactors through weapon sales, drain our Treasury through far-flung military endeavors whose only 'mission statements' ... are protecting the ability of the 1% to accrue ever greater and greater wealth ... and just generally FAIL TO LEAD in any meaningful sense ... until such time as we've both armed, and ANNOYED, the rest of the world to the point where they basically band together and crush us like the Evil Empire that was 1940's Germany.
In Truth, if the world can just collectively gets its shit together to the point of destroying the Petro-Dollar ... they'll be 1/2 way to destroying the USA, and the resulting economic fallout that would occur, along with the partisan divide that the 1% have actively created over many decades ... would likely lead us to destroy ourselves in pretty short order.
Idiots who don't think it's important how the rest of the world 'sees us', and that we're just so powerful and badass we can just prance around the world stage waving our Big 'Murkan Dick and that means 'We Win' ... are going to cause this Nations downfall.
We occupy the place of power we've held by virtue of a Legit Claim to Righteousness, and Rule of Law. We 'earned' it in the past by being Good Actors (i.e. having Progressive values, which are almost universally regarded as GOOD).
But under Dump and Ryan and McTurtle, et al? That status has absolutely been FLUSHED. The whole world now hates us, basically.
The GOP (and it's know-nothing, knuckle-dragging supporters) are apparently committed to destroying our moral authority through their actions, and their support of a colossal shitheel like Dump.
