New York to seek proposals for 800 MW of offshore wind in 2018-2019

New York to seek proposals for 800 MW of offshore wind in 2018-2019
January 3

New York will issue two solicitations in 2018 and 2019 to develop at least 800 MW of offshore wind projects in a drive to meet the previously set target for 2,400 MW of offshore wind by 2030.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced this on Tuesday as part of the 2018 State of the State Address, noting that the planned solicitations will be the first in a set schedule to reach the target that was established a year ago. The 800 MW of sought offshore wind power generating capacity will be enough to power 400,000 New York households, according to the announcement.

As part of the plan, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) will invest USD 15 million (EUR 12.5m) in clean energy workforce development and infrastructure advancement to train workers for jobs in the offshore wind industry. This includes offshore wind construction, installation, operation, maintenance, design and associated infrastructure.

In an attempt to address the intermittency of clean resources like wind and solar, Cuomo is also launching an initiative to deploy 1,500 MW of energy storage by 2025. Achieving this objective will generate USD 2 billion in energy value to New Yorkers, the announcement says.

The governor has also proposed a commitment of at least USD 200 million from NY Green Bank for storage-related investments. In addition to that, Cuomo wants NYSERDA to invest not less than USD 60 million through storage pilots and activities to reduce barriers to deploying energy storage.

...of my beloved beaches becoming off shore industrial parks.

This reminds me of the way I wanted to throw up when I was forcing myself to read that very, very, very, very stupid novel by Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged" just so I could understand what it was that got all these dumb guys with acne in underwear wedgies.

She said the most beautiful thing in a forest was a billboard.

Trashing the coast of Long Island with these worthless wet dream fantasies of people who don't know shit from shinola either about energy or the environment is something very much along the same lines, a crime against all future generations.

In Denmark, the capacity utilization of wind turbines is about 31%.

This means that the fraudulent representation of this huge trash field, as 800 MW, is actually the equivalent of 280 MW gas plant that could easily fit in one building, and, of course, no one will be able to shut the gas plant because the wind doesn't always blow, even at sea in Long Island, as anyone who's sailed there knows.
