Most Americans think climate change is happening -- National polls
Public concern about global warming is warming dramatically, according to two national polls released this week on the same day.
The surveys show a sharp uptick in public belief in climate change, worry and concern over what is happening, as well as in the number of Americans who have experienced the effects of global warming.
"I think we're witnessing a sea change in public understanding of climate change," Ed Maibach director of George Mason University's Center for Climate Change Communication, told the Washington Post. He was reacting to a national survey by Yale and GMU.
Maibach cited a trio of factors. Government scientists have said action must be taken within a decade to limit the Earth's warming. President Trump has tried to roll back climate initiatives and boost fossil fuels. And the Earth has been battered by droughts, record heat and ferocious storms.
