A judge Friday dismissed a lawsuit from the state of Utah challenging President Joe Bidens restoration of two sprawling national monuments in the state that were downsized by President Donald Trump.
U.S. District Judge David Nuffer said Biden acted within his authority when he issued proclamations restoring Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in 2021. The monuments are on land sacred to many Native Americans.
Nuffer said Biden could issue such proclamations creating monuments as he sees fit and those actions were not reviewable by the court.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and the office of Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes said the state would begin work immediately on an appeal. The Republican governor predicted that the issue would ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.

(33,643 posts)of the POTUS that came before them like this. Seems a bit untenable as a system if they can
Also, I think land protection decisions like this should be made on corporeal grounds ... preservation of watersheds, native plants/animals (esp endangered ones), ecology of the region, etc ... as opposed to being based on magical spirits and such, but that's probably just me.

(22,573 posts)this kind of crap happen all the time. I remember when the Bush administration got in they got rid of all recycling in the dining areas. Instead of putting the plastics into a recycling bin they were just throwing it all in the garbage. Apparently the dining areas looked quite a mess because of it. Recycling makes throwing out refuse a much cleaner and neater process.
