Danish toy maker Lego invests in wind energy (Straits Times)

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Danish toy maker Lego says its parent company is investing nearly three billion kroner (S$674 million) over the next four years in the construction of a German offshore wind farm.

Lego said on Thursday its privately-owned parent company Kirkbi A/S will control 32 per cent of the Borkum Riffgrund wind farm with 77 turbines. It will become one of Germany's largest when completed in 2015.

Lego won't use the energy for its production, but Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joergen Vid Knudstorp said the investment is part of the company's ambition 'of making a positive impact on the world'.

Denmark's DONG Energy said it sold part of its stake in the wind farm to Lego and Denmark-based Oticon Foundation for a total of 4.7 billion kroner.
