DC/MD/VA: The 5 Red Line Metro stations that will close for the summer
SILVER SPRING, Md. Metro riders along the Red Line in Maryland will need to plan accordingly as WMATA plans to close five stations this summer.
According to the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority, the five stations between Fort Totten and Glenmont will be shut down to allow the Maryland Transit Authority (MTA) access to construct the Purple Line mezzanine at the Silver Spring station.
The closure is planned to start in June and last through September and would impact the following stations:
* Glenmont
* Wheaton
* Forest Glen
* Silver Spring
* Takoma
"The work must be completed during a shutdown as the scope of work involves both tracks for [an] extended timeframe," The Safety and Operations Committee said during a Metro Board meeting Thursday. ...................(more)
