Israel becoming an increasingly more partisan issue in US, poll finds

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Israel-becoming-an-increasingly-more-partisan-issue-in-US-poll-finds-398200

A new poll conducted by Bloomberg news finds that Americans are becoming more partisan on issues pertaining to Israel after decades of general bipartisan agreement on matters concerning the Jewish State.

The poll suggests that the American-Israel dynamic is shifting considerably from previous decades, and that it may represent a watershed moment that may have implications on US policy, both foreign and domestic concerning Israel.

The study saw that Republicans, by a ratio of more than 2-to-1, thought the US should stand behind Israel even if its positions diverge considerably from American interests. Conversely, those who identified as Democrats said the opposite was true at roughly the same ratio and that American interests override those of Israel.

The Bloomberg Politics poll also found that Republicans had more sympathetic feelings towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over US President Barack Obama at 67 percent to 16. Democrats, on the other hand, felt more allegiance towards the US commander-and-chief at a 76 percent to nine percent advantage.

The demographics are shifting, and that will spell trouble for apartheid Israel.

Already with the main Democratic candidate I don't think the OP is true and a hunch says the other Democratic candidates will remain staunchly pro- Israel.

divide, and very much comes down to single-issue politics and the power of money over Congress. The fact that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee this week voted 16-0 to try to force the Obama Administration's Iran deal through Congressional approval -- which will all but certainly make any negotiated nuclear settlement impossible -- should tell us how powerful that lobby really is.

2/3 of Republicans are more loyal to the state of Israel than they are to the United States.

The same crew that loves to posture on patriotism.

Did you know that Arab Americans voted more for Bush than Gore in 2000?

Why do you suppose they did that?

Domestic policy?

Moreover, up until 2000 Republicans had generally been inclined to put the interests of the US ahead of Israel's interests.

And they weren't characterized by rabid anti-Arab racism yet.

The Bush-Cheney years saw the Republicans embrace neoconservatism and anti-Arab racism, which made the Republicans ideological soulmates of the Likud voters in Israel.

Were those who marched against the Bush/Cheney war in Iraq not being loyal to the United States?

That's certainly how some on the RW spun it.

They can live without the US military subsidy if it comes to that.

In the past, the US has run interference for Israel and largely kept the Europeans from applying real pressure.

Those days are coming to an end, if they are not already over.

I think that most Republican candidates will try to drive a wedge between the Democratic Party and support for Israel. Any principled support for Israel will be seen as no support at all, compared to the Republican presidential hopefuls who will eagerly line up to fellate the donkey.
