Related: About this forumSilk, linen, pearls...oh my! I am celebrating 12 years today with my partner!!
Silk and linen are the modern gifts, whereas pearl is the traditional (bleech!). I couldn't find the silk gift I wanted. Hell, I couldn't find a silk gift at all, so satin will have to do. I never thought my town was that small. LOL! Of course, the other day I was looking for an anniversary card. I came back and wrote about it on DU; in GD and The Men's Group. To my delight, most people got the point I was trying to make. It was nice to see others seeing, if only for a moment, what it was to be gay (or lesbian, bisexual, transgender) in this country for things as mundane as searching for a card. The well wishes and recommendations were also nice, though I was shocked by the number of recommendations. I figured only a thread stating I was leaving DU would garner such an outpouring!
So, today is our 12 year anniversary. I have been blessed, lucky, or something, because I have a man who has treated me with respect, kindness, compassion, and most importantly, has loved me. I have done my best to return all those things to him. We have had issues and concerns like any couple, though sometimes, being gay makes it more complicated. But, we have navigated them as a couple. We are still individuals, but we complement each other so well. It is joyous to have someone who makes your heart skip a beat, who looks at you with such love that others comment on it in a grocery store, who holds you when your scared, laughs with you, cries with you, and just chills out with you.
I wanted to share this in the LGBT group because I spend lots of time here.
If you wished us well already, no need to do it again...though, I checked the mail yesterday and...well, the gifts...are they coming UPS?
I share my happiness with you all!
(PS...a special thanks to theHandpuppet and Aerows for, um, addressing issues, so I didn't have to do so!)

(34,582 posts)seriously, she is wanting a new ring. That's OK, though, because I am going to try to get the one watch I have always wanted- an Omega Speedmaster Pro. It was the only watch to go to the moon. Anything Apollo related gets me- even at $3500.

(19,964 posts)I guess we're kind of weird because we've never been into exchanging gifts or giving presents, even at Christmas. I'm not sure if that's because we're both low maintenance or simply too cheap.

(34,582 posts)so we have concentrated on the grandchildren. Yes, I have grandchildren. The wife is 10 years my senior, and had three daughters when we got married. My grandchildren are the light of my life, and I probably dote on them a bit too much

(19,964 posts)You have grandkids to dote on. I think we're just cheap and lazy.

(36,281 posts)My partner and I have known one another since we were 15 years old, although we've only been lovers for the last eight years or so. When we have "anniversaries" there's always that element of sort of what ifs, if you know what I mean. Best of luck to you both!
