I also stand firm in the belief that if people like Edie Windsor had just sat down and shut up, the moment for equality would have passed, and we'd be waiting even LONGER to see marriage equality happen, if ever.

HRC's husband certainly had a hand in formalizing discrimination against GLBT people in DOMA and DADT (both of which I understand he later regretted and repudiated). The stench of those acts shouldn't yoke to HRC, but at the same time, by HRC's own admission, she had to evolve in order to support marriage equality, meaning that she also failed to support GLBT equality at one time.

So the short of it is, I'm glad she came around, but it was NOT because either Bill or Hillary magnanimously granted equality to the GLBT community; it's because WE fought for ourselves and defended ourselves on the basic merits of doing so, and WE WON. We'll likely always have to safeguard our progress.

I don't want her as the nominee, but I do appreciate that many of my GLBT friends here and elsewhere support her, and perhaps at some point I'll be able to do so as well...?

Cheers, William.

Even though it is about the Gay men in the video. Was trying to put a human face to the couple.

Peace.

Glad she has evolved in her equality support since her appearance on Ellen years ago where she only supported civil unions.
I do believe she'll also continue economic recovery efforts as any democrat will, as long as there isn't some unexpected super majority republican congress.
I'll give the republicans this much, they support prosperity and liberty for everyone. That is as long as you're not:
Union members

But the remaining 0.1 percent will prosper and be liberated from all pesky unprofitable restrictions if they win.
*sigh*, so as usual I'll vote for the lesser of the evils.

She needs to show that she actually believes what she says. Her platforms have changed quite a bit over the years and it is easy to assume it's more because she wants to be president than because she actually believes these things.

People don't like candidates that are two-faced in this way. Even if they agree with what they actually believe. People vote for a person and not for their ability at politicking.
