I'm looking forward to working with all of you here.
A reminder of group host duties and powers:
-- Our first job as hosts is to maintain a space that is vibrant and welcoming to all who wish to discuss women's rights and related issues. We are here to facilitate that.
--Each of us has the ability to pin or lock threads that are off topic.
--We also can block posters who don't follow the SoP or who otherwise are disruptive.
However, I'm hoping that we can resolve differences without needing to block anyone.

I don't ever have enuf Time. But this I must ANNOUNCE TO DEMOCRATS EVERYWHERE, male and female alike:
If you do not remember the Equal Rights Amendment, I understand, as ERA has gone missing from history texts. ERA is a bill that Congress diddled over for 50 YEARS before deciding that maybe it would be a good idea to include American women and girls in the nation's contract with its people, the US Constitution. They voted YES and sent it as required for 38 states to vote for/ratify ERA.
Trouble is, 35 DID, and there it still stands, unratified but awaiting just three MORE states' votes!
What's ERA do? It would make the rapacious sex discrimination, rape, low job or promotion opportunities for women A VIOLATION OF THE US CONSTITUTION in many cases. Underpayment by Corporations of Florida women such that our average salary is ONLY 72% of guys for the Same Job; across the nation it's only 77%. That puts 1 of 7 elderly women in poverty all because corporate America refuses to pay equal wages! Wake UP! YOU and I as taxpayers subsidize those corporations' immoral stinginess because WE must pick up the tab that corporations refuse to pay women.
ERA brings more justice to males, too: fairer child custody in some cases, the draft and other inequities.
ALL nations created since WWII already have adopted ERA wording. Doesn't that sorta' put "America's exceptionalism" that the Rs tout so fiercely out to dry?
BREAKING NEWS tho: This year, 2013,
Summarizing: I have lobbied HARD For FREE for YOU and all for Florida's vote for ERA FOR THE PAST 13 YEARS, 18/7, I kid you not. As founder-president, I have 300 000 members+ in my National ERA Alliance. I also help mentor the 8 other states as they file their ERA bills, too. AND, I partnered with ERA leaders in 3 other states to create and file our speed-up ERA bill BEFORE THE US HOUSE AND SENATE! There IS hope that Florida may join the 21st century with those other 35 states. That only leaves 2 more states before ERA would go directly into US Constitution! "we don't do small stuff"
BREAKING NEWS now--ALERT! THIS year ERA may get voted upon in both FL House and Senate! Wanna' do your civic duty and your right? Then ...
DO YOU REALLY WANT GENDER-EQUAL TREATMENT? If YES, then please head to the
phone now Now NOW to CALL 2 Florida legislators:
1) Representative Eddy Gonzalez, 305 364-3066
SAY: "Constituents are frustrated having been made to wait THIRTEEN YEARS
for ERA HEARINGS in the Florida HOUSE. Respectfully, WILL Representative
Gonzalez HOLD 2013 HEARINGS on HOUSE BILL 8001? Thank you."
AND
2) Senator Tom Lee, 813 653-7061
SAY: "Constituents have worked 18/7 for THIRTEEN YEARS to see the ERA
ratified by Florida legislators. Respectfully, WILL Senator Lee HOLD 2013
HEARINGS on Senate bill 54? Thank you."
(They have never asked where you live. If they do, just say "The ERA bill
IS A FEDERAL BILL AFFECTING ALL AMERICANS, SO WE URGE HEARINGS".)
Want more info? You are warmly welcomed to www.2PassERA.org or write me at SandyO@PassERA.org
I am old. I don't want to die leaving especially my female friends second-class and totally unmentioned in their nation's contract with its People, the US Constitution. That War on Women is REAL: 916 anti-woman Republican bills over just 3 month time! And it continues to throw us under the bus. Want your daughter to be assigned to more of the same? Then MAKE THOSE 2 SHORT PHONE CALLS Now. Couldn't be easier--I've even given you the numbers AND what to say! WE WANT A VOTE ON ERA--UP OR DOWN after 13 years non-stop work for free for you and all.

(35,986 posts)Now that we're both in a less hostile environment, can I ask you what the difference in focus is between this and the other group? Is the other one supposed to be more about feminist theory and stuff like that, and this one is more about actual issues that effect women? If I've got it right there, this is where I should always have been, because I get bored when it comes to theory and waves and stuff...
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)The biggest difference is that Feminists is a safe haven where this group is not. IMHO feminist theory discussions don't belong here but feminism does. There's also no requirement that one self-identify as feminist or even pro-feminism in order to participate here.
The focus is Women's Rights. The "issues" part of the name I view as allowing general discussions related to women, particularly those issues which don't fit into the SoPs of the other women-centric groups.

(61,785 posts)I want to make sure that I don't start the wrong kind of OP. Can you provide more details about what topics are allowed and not allowed?
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)like Feminists. I don't think we'll allow or disallow any women-related topic, but some will probably receive better response in other places. I KNOW I'm going to regret saying this but IMHO WR&I is the GD of women's topics. Other places are more focused on aspects of that but there's overlap.

(53,866 posts)we should discuss what the procedure should be, I personally think there should be general consensus amongst the hosts that someone needs to be blocked and it should be reported to the community as to why it happened.
it should also happen rarely
obamanut2012
(26,183 posts)I also don't think it'll be much of a issue here.
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)Most problems will be handled by juries. However, if we think that a block is in order the hosts should discuss it in a thread in Forum & Group Hosts. I agree that if we agree on the block we owe our community an explanation.

(41,832 posts)I like the idea of discussion in the host forum. Only problem is... that the subject our discussion may be another host somewhere on the site. I guess we can deal with that if it happens.
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)All the more reason to have that consensus discussion in the open.

(29,098 posts)But remember Blocking is a Temporary Action. If someone is acting up so bad in the group I certainly wouldn't want any of the hosts to feel fearful to make the decision to block someone on their own until there is discussion. Hosts aren't always on line at the same time and sometimes a temporary block to give someone time to let off steam is a good intervention.
I like the idea of discussing it in a thread and letting us all know what is going on and why a decision has been made.
Ooooops...This post is out of wack and I was responding to the subthread above. Eeeeeeeks
Gormy Cuss
(30,884 posts)Your points are still valid. A temporary block can still be handled with a heads-up in Forum & Group Hosts.
The empressof all
(29,098 posts)I meant to say I wouldn't want you all to hesitate in blocking someone just because no one else is around to support the decision.
I edited my post above to be clearer.
