Related: About this forumAnybody ever had thrush? Mine started as laryngitis 4 days after I
returned from 2 weeks in Cuba. Then 4 days later, it felt like my mouth was on fire and I stopped eating. Last Saturday morning, I couldn't even swallow my coffee so I went to a walk-in clinic. They couldn't do anything except take a swab to send to the lab. Yesterday, they called and said it was a yeast infection, called thrush. I now have an anti-fungal mouthwash and an appointment with my ENT tomorrow.
I'm a 9 year tonsillar cancer survivor. I've had dry mouth since the radiation treatments, but never had this before. Nothing has changed in my hours long dental care, so can't figure out what might have triggered this.

(17,521 posts)It happened while they were taking a long course of antibiotics. I believe that the antibiotic kills bacteria and the absence of bacteria allows the fungus to grow. That's all I know.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

(9,283 posts)My daughter got thrush as a newborn, its common in babies. The good thing is that the medicines are very effective.
Plus traveling plays havoc with your immune system.

(70,395 posts)i stopped using it for a while because of that, but found i couldnt really control my copd w/o it.
when i started using it again, i had a flush, but it quieted down after a few days. if i understand correctly this is a part of the normal flora that occasionally flares up.
stress can def cause this, esp in your case w underlying radiation damage.
