BROOKLYN, New York -- An 11-year-old boy died in Brooklyn Tuesday after authorities believe he had an allergic reaction to seafood that was being cooked at the time.
The medical examiner will determine the official cause of death for Cameron Jean-Pierre, who was found unconscious and unresponsive around 7:30 p.m on East 82nd Street in Canarsie.
"Terrible thing," dad Steven Jean-Pierre said. "For me, my son was a leader, ambitious... My son was loved by everybody. Anytime somebody came across my son, they loved him."
The boy's mother, Jody Pottingr, tells ABC News that the family moved from Brooklyn to Piscataway, New Jersey, two years ago, but that the boy was visiting his grandparents for the holidays.
"He went to his grandma, which is my mom, just to wish her a happy New Year and just to let her know that he loved her," she said. ""He went back to 82nd Street, where his dad's mom and the aunt were cooking what they call in the Caribbean household 'salt fish.'"

Cod was cooking on the stove when 11-year-old Cameron Jean-Pierre arrived at his grandmothers home in New York.
Cameron, who had a known allergy to seafood, started to wheeze during the visit this week, so his father said he reached for his sons asthma medication. But this time, the nebulizer machine that Cameron had used during allergy attacks in the past, did not seem to be working the young boy could not breathe in the air, his father said.
Thats when I called 911, his father, Steven Jean-Pierre, said Thursday in a phone interview with The Washington Post. Jean-Pierre said his son was gasping, saying: I love you, Daddy. I love you. I feel like Im dying.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

(7,358 posts)I have a nephew who also has serious food allergies. For Thanksgiving, as we ate our turkey and dressing, he got to eat some homemade fries. No peanut oil or any kind of nuts can come near him. No eggs, no dairy.

(20,605 posts)Frozen fish is often treated with sodium tripolyphosphate - used to retain moisture.
Formaldehyde was found in fish imported from China, Viet Nam, and India. Believe it is likely going on. Most of our fish is imported from other countries, especially Asia. https://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/09/formaldehyde-detected-in-supermarket-fish-imported-from-asia/
These are the chemicals used in fish farming: http://www.ukmarinesac.org.uk/activities/water-quality/wq8_22.htm
Hope they test the fish the boy was exposed to. I got some store brand frozen cod fillets that had a lot of the sodium tripolyphosate and I came close to throwing up from a single bite. Bad stuff.
fish is no longer just fish, beef is no longer just beef, all of our food has been treated with various chemicals so we need to test for those additives and see if they could be contributing to these immune responses.

(5,273 posts)about 20 years ago and I woke up the next day extremely swollen from my head to my feet with a severe allergic reaction to something there even though I had never before or since experienced any food allergies.
It was so bad. So sorry
