Anxiety - producing call

We have a landline. We get numerous hang-up calls daily. Usually it's just silence. Today, a woman called and asked for me by name. I picked it up, but she'd already hung up.

I did not recognize the area code. Now I'm anxious. It was probably bs, but I'm not used to hearing my name.

The calling is automated but when you pick up no one speaks, very annoying

Them knowing your name is not a big deal, so much of our information is just “out” there

Please don’t worry but let us know if something worse develops

It was a human, and she asked by name. That's what freaked me out. I'm a very private person. I'm on the DNC database, but it's useless. I forgot too make our LL unlisted, so it's out there. My fault

My Discover CC has a wonderful free benefit of sweeping ten sites and removing personal information. It's swept about 3 times so far, so who knows

Not perfect but it does block a large number of calls.

to respond. Young male caller says they're in an accident or jail, etc.
I have a landline also and get many spam calls.

I have no grandchildren.
Those calls don't get very far with me...

I pick up and say "How may I help you?"

The guy who who had the phone number in spring 2022 apparently stiffed a lot of people.

Good luck Thomas, whole lotta people looking for you

Did you look up the area code? Maybe that might give you a hint? Worth a try, I guess.

Though nowadays it seems many numbers are spoofed.

Back in the day, when I was a mere young un', my sister would take great delight in calling me and pretending to be Southern Bell (remember them?). She was great at voices and sounded like some collections person. Even though I knew I had nothing overdue, she'd get me every time.

Sometimes she'd be the electric company.

I have a nickname, so if someone asked for me by my real name, I used to freak out. She, of course, knew that.

Just put the area code into google, and you'll at least know the part of the country. But, probably spoofed anyway.
