TMJ update

The office staff was wonderful. Sadly, my insurance doesn't cover TMJ. treatment. I spent about 2 hrs with the dentist and his assistant. They explained things and were very very thorough.

I will be paying about 1000.00 for full scanning and diagnostic workup, including sleep study. The orthotic device is about 6100.00. I'm trying not to panic about that

They said yes. I'm so scared Ill pay that and my condition will not improve. I asked could I be living with this the rest of my life and he was honest and said yes.

I asked could it resolve on its own. He said it could. But I don't think it will. We discussed a lot.

I've found the prices, because senior students are doing 95% of the work to be very very fair. You got a dental college in driving distance?

I trust these people. He specializes in TMJ treatment. I used to go to a dental assistant school for cleanings

A massage therapist or talk to one? I would look into that before signing on to anything in one direction or the other. Might be a lot less expensive too. Just a thought.

They actually discussed massage there. The problem is the joint (tmj) is now pushed back more towards my ear and its popping in and out. I'm pissed because the mouthguard my (now former) dentist have me (they know I have tmj and have aggravated it) is making it worse.

I'm steamed. I'm leaving their practice

Dentists trying to give me a bite guard but my PT, whom I trusted explicitly, told me to never do that because it would cause problems with my neck.

I am a fan of good dentists but I also swear by proper massage therapy too. My experience with TMJ is that the massage therapist provided noticeable relief every treatment. I have work done on my whole body and it's well below $100./session.

Still, I advise you to do what you feel most comfortable doing.

This whole thing came out off the blue. I was eating cereal last week and heard crack! from my left jaw. Like, it gave out. There some popping on the right side, too.

Suspect he might be able to offer an opinion but not a diagnosis.
