Aftermath of Lewiston

It’s been an awful few days here in Maine. People say Maine is a small town. Lewiston was so personal for a lot of us. I don’t live very far from there and it’s a place I go to often. The tragedy has touched us in a million ways.
It caught up to me tonight. I ended up in the ER with chest pains. Thank god, the universe or whatever gets you through, it wasn’t. Overwhelming stress and sadness got to me.
We are all hurting and grappling with the enormity of violence in our community. Sandy Hook, Uvalde, Las Vegas, even as far back as Columbine brought the horror to our doors. But it all hit home tonight. Having it happen in my own backyard made it real personal. I pray that you be spared from such sorrow.
Please keep a good thought for me and my fellow Mainers. We will pull through.

I’m using a quote from Rep. Chellie Pingree as our “Quote of the Week” that starts every weekly Call to Action email that my Indivisible group puts together for the upcoming week.

“If it came to our state it can come anywhere. So it’s time for real change.”

She said that on Friday evening, 10-27-23, after the crisis ended with the discovery of the shooter’s dead body.

The nightmare changed the view of her Democratic colleague who had been against doing anything about assault rifles. He feels 180-degrees differently now, and said so, and apologized for his earlier wrong view. One more on the side of the Light.

the ER visit was not far more serious. An incredibly sad and painful subject for your 1,000th post. Your DU family is here for you.

Truth is I go back as far as Kephra, Will Pitt and NSMA. Got bounced off during the election crash of 2016. I’m here most every day, but just am pretty quiet. Still waters and all that.
I do love your posts and wisdom.

...and so sad for all of us, that we are rendered to life in such times. Our strange and painful plight in this country is that we cannot manage to do what is most needed.
