It's always nice to read something that supports much of what you are already doing and adds just a touch more.

(23,156 posts)The tendency to demonize or glorify certain foods makes me crazy. No one food is poison, unless a person is severely allergic to the point that consuming that food will kill her. But not that many people are so sensitive, and many of us have no food allergies whatsoever.
Cooking from scratch is not that hard, although it's not something a person necessarily looks forward to after a long day at the job. But so many meals take very little time to prepare, or can be fixed ahead of time and frozen. Or use a crockpot.

(35,764 posts)There are many cookbooks that specialize in 4-6 ingredients. Many chefs have cookbooks out that promise a meal in 15". Even if it's not quite 15", with a little practice, it could be.
Once in a great while, a frozen meal from the supermarket is OK, but only once in awhile. If you look at the sodium per serving on a frozen meal, it is often as much as 810-1200 mg sodium!
Definitely not good for one's blood pressure.
And the slow cooker, as you pointed out, is sheer genius for easy meals. There are now vegetarian slow-cooker recipe collections!

(2,302 posts)I don't work, so I have plenty of time to cook, and as I've been following a low-carb regimen for a long time, I make almost everything from scratch. The one problem with that is that it's very easy to get spoiled! Home-made just tastes so much better!
