Steaks. Corn (fresh, cut off the cob), and mixed with a few other vegetables and coriander. Then something interesting that I've not seen before: shredded scallions with carrots. I tasted it on the way in and it has sesame oil dressing.
Dessert I don't know, but when I was out, I bought some chocolates with pecans in them. Might be good with a tangerine or Halo. Have with ginger tea, which I made by grating a ginger root earlier in the day. I add agave for sweetener and squeeze some fresh lemon in--so good.

(9,353 posts)I get it at my local gourmet market.
We used to have Swiss friends up here in the Northeast (who moved to Florida - still friends) who planted it every spring.
You eat the whole plant except the roots. The way I get it they are grown in a planting medium and need to be snipped into the bowl.

(68,800 posts)Is it bitter like arugula?
dhol82
(9,353 posts)It is a very tender small leaf with its own taste.

You've got me looking up Mache salad right now!

(68,800 posts)they didn't all look the same. I will have to try elk. They have a restaurant around here that serves it.

(9,353 posts)Is it tender enough for that cooking method?
MontanaMama
(23,367 posts)Slicing it across the grain, and while partially frozen...almost shaving it...will yield meat tender enough for stir fry. Wild game can be delicate and doesn't do well if it is over cooked. I use an Instant Pot for larger cuts of elk, moose and antelope and it is foolproof in making game tender.

(17,516 posts)The roast had a rub of garlic, salt, rosemary, pepper, and olive oil.
Baked potato wedges tossed in olive oil and seasoning before hand.
Stewed apples with raisins.
We were going to have a salad, but got lazy. We'll make a meal of salad tomorrow.

(68,800 posts)brought me a meal after my middle daughter was born. I still remember it Roast pork with rosemary, Mashed potatoes and Zucchini. I had never had zucchini. My Mom served frozen veg...broccoli, green beans, frozen spinach, corn and iceberg salad. Indian pudding for dessert with homemade vanilla ice cream. I never had that either. Sue became a dear friend and taught me how to cook from scratch.

(17,516 posts)I used to use sage instead, but like the rosemary better. Next time I'll try both.
When I was small and we were not doing well financially, dinner would be boiled potatoes, fish sticks and frozen carrots and peas. We had those peas and carrots at every meal. Substitute hot dogs, tuna casserole etc. for the fish sticks but we had those darned peas and carrots every day..
Thanks for sharing the story of your introduction to rosemary and cooking from scratch.

(35,830 posts)They package it up in styrofoam trays of 4, so you have to buy at least that much. There are telltale signs as to its freshness, and this one met the standards.

(5,184 posts)Snowbound and had the time and ingredients. No leftovers.
Carmelized onions, carrots, mushrooms, celery and white cabbage with spices and beef/chicken broth with some veal demi place in the slow cooker. I'll blend everything partially and serve with some leftover short rib meat and Welsh rarebit.
