What's for Dinner, Sun., June 24, 2018

Pork and sausage stew with potatoes. First, however, was a plate of fresh pasta with sauce that was made with ground pork.

We also had a salad with red and green leaves from my garden. In fact, almost everything but the fennel came from my garden. There was both a small yellow and a green zucchini that I sliced with the mandoline and parboiled for just a second. Sliced fennel and black radish, also. I put mirin and sesame oil on my salad and that, combined with this very interesting flavor of kombucha tea (coconut lime mint mojito) made for the most interesting taste sensation I've had in a while.

No dessert tonight, but I might concoct something later.

I put way too much tomato paste in them.

I fixed it up some by adding apple cider vinegar and water. Simmered it a bit and removed most of the liquid. It became passable.

I think I will add some smoked sausage and hot sauce, and serve it over rice.

A saying from a friend comes to mind, "there is no culinary crime that Texas Pete can't help."

I haven't had much interaction with FLFC today. TJ has been sleeping in preparation for her night shift and FLFC is having a long siesta in TJ's bed.

FLFC is Four Legged Food Critic. A 6-1/2 pound Pom who demands to smell and taste anything I cook. He then gives me his opinion (critique). He has recently had major surgery on a leg and has had his ups and downs, but is doing much better. We are his third home and will be his forever home. After five years we have managed to coax him out of most of his bad habits.

I have been posting his menus with mine from time to time and his reaction to the food. A bit off topic perhaps, but no one has objected.

I didn't prepare rice, but I took those beans and added some beef in taco sauce (leftovers). I got it good and hot placed in on a flour tortilla with sharp white cheddar and rolled it up. Sour cream and Texas Pete to dip with. Had lettuce and tomato on the side that was also a left over from the tacos. This ended up a winner!

Something a little different, but not too demanding. There was a little broccoli left for a side, and dessert is leftover brownies from an open house at church.

So much better than the cream of mushroom soup, pasta, and tuna casserole that happens all too often when on a tight budget.

Leftover brownies rarely stay leftover long here.
