What's for Dinner, Fri., Jan. 18, 2019

Beef brisket, made in the slow cooker with rutabaga and potatoes. It's one of those RG specialties: he loves making cold weather, hearty meals.

I made the salad: baby arugula, cherries, and goat cheese with toasted almonds.

BTW, I meant to comment back on this salad, which I made the other day. It was more about the method for pitting the cherries that I used:

Put the cherry on the top of a wine bottle. Using a chopstick, push the top of the cherry and the pit will fall right out. I learned how to do it so the pit didn’t fall to the bottom of the wine bottle, as I wanted the bottle to be clean for recycling.

Because it's such a clean way to pit the cherry, this method can be used for cherries that you use for decorative purposes, such as on top of cakes or as decoration on a plate.

I got the tip from a book, but I checked youtube and there's a Food & Wine video showing how to do it. It's easy, though. You can do it without the video.

Dessert: bread pudding.

The Landlady(!) loves to make pizza from scratch and since I did the drive back into town, she gets to cook.

Make the dough and spread it onto the pizza stone. Spread fresh tomato sauce with garlic and basil on top. The supermarket down the block (Food Universe) sells delicious mozzarella and Romano cheeses. Minced garlic and anchovies to top it off. I'm going to try to convince her to put some pepperoni on it, too.

I'll make a simple green salad.

Dark chocolate and cream sherry for dessert.

I know my husband is going to get his Greek pizza with feta and olives, but I am going to cheat just a little bit with their amazing Buffalo chicken salad. So spicy and yummy!

Turkey in gravy with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and Lima beans.

I am not tired of left over turkey yet.

FLFC is finicky tonight. He had one small piece of a Vienna sausage, a bite of his cheese burger, and a bite of turkey. He refused a second bite of any of these. He is now on the couch singing the blues because TJ went to work. We've noticed that lately he eats a lot one day and not much the next.
