The bracket holding my muffler broke today, a question

I was in town earlier to meet my friend for breakfast. I was getting ready to go back in to Dem h.q.to volunteer. I turned my car around and got on the st. Horrible noise. I stopped right away and ran behind the car and saw the back of the muffler resting on the ground. No warning at all I got down and looked to see if I could do anything, but I couldn't see well enough. I called AAA and their tow truck came out, pretty quick. He said he wanted to check something and got down to look under the car. He said he could fix it and asked if I had a wire hanger. I got one and brought it out. As he was fixing it, I asked if he could tell if the front end was secure. He said the rear bracket had rusted. Before he left, I started the car to see what it sounded like. I know if the front seam is cracked, the car will be louder, but no, it sounded like my stealth Prius I gave him a tip as thanks. I felt lucky, all in all.

I made an appt. for next Th. I wondered if I stay on paved roads and take it easy, can I make a few trips between now and then, if I have to? I don't know how secure he made it.

I feel terrible I had to cancel my stint at Dem. h.q.

I'd drive on it for a while without worry. It won't pass inspection, and the repair is necessary, but you should be okay for a few days.

I don't think Ohio does inspections any more. Back in the day, we drove some some cars barely patched together, and the OSHP would set an inspection up at a roadside park. We'd call everyone and warn them Haven't seen a car inspection for years!

None of our cars would pass!

My kids are the ones who have the nice new cars. The old folks drive the old cars. 🙂

Good luck and hope you don’t run into any more trouble before your scheduled repair.

He struck me as competent. Just so long as it lasts till next Th.

My husband was a terrific mechanic, and I helped him a lot. I miss those days. He got into his 40s and wondered why he was still doing his own work. I said I thought he enjoyed the work, and if he didn't, then hire someone. So he found River City Tire, and they do most of the work I need. I'm taking it there Th. I think the last thing my husband did was change the 8 volt battery on this Prius, in 2014. I had our mechanic replace it in 2019.

All the women said it was a loose tail pipe.

All the men said shocks.

Men won. Shocks and bushings. Muffler fine. Had to throw in two new belts too.
