So we have a male cat, not quite 2, neutered, who carries around part of a stuffed animal - a bright pink arm of an orangutan - it is like a pink boa. He has it in his mouth so it drags underneath him, then proceeds to knead the tail - you can hear the nails digging in - looks like he is attempting to hump it - and often gives out a really weird, plaintive meow. He will do this for 30 minutes, an hour - off and on during the day (and night!)
What the hell is he doing? Quite amusing (except at night, when the meowing and a sound like he is pulling up our carpets tends to be less than ideal for sleep!)

(18,219 posts)I am glad that my male kitties have never done this. Cats just have no inhibitions, do they?
My male cat has a kick stick that he carries all over the house with him, but he carries it like a dog would carry a stick, just prancing around the house with it. It is bigger than I would expect a cat to carry around, but he has no problem. I call it a kick stick, because when he decides it is time to play with it, he rolls on his back and hugs it and kicks it with his back legs. He seems to have a lot of fun with it. Luckily, he doesn't make a lot of noise with it, except all the thumping around when he bats it.

Don't know if it's true, but it makes sense.
