Related: About this forumFeral cats this afternoon.
It's rainy & chilly here today. The feral cats who live under my wheelchair ramp on the side porch, in the straw & old towels, got a startle when I went out to dump the trash. They raced out, got wet & raced back under. Nature abides.
A big boy, black with a small white blaze on the chest, I've seen him for near 2 years, an orange & white fluffy who gives an excellent hard eye to humans. S/he has to be a descendant of the ginger tom from next door about 5 years ago

(33,059 posts)My 2 teenage cats were caught in my backyard, trying to get back under the den that has been thete ad long asI've been here.
And I'm going to spend some time next week trying to find a safe humane cat trap cage. At least to neuter & check over which ever I can get.

(3,163 posts)I meant before anybody started flaming me for splitting hairs about posting regarding feral cats in a "pets" thread. The generic "you" rather than the specific "you."
Are you going to do "trap, neuter and release" or are you bringing them in? They may not give you a choice I guess. Anyway, thanks for taking care of them.

(4,170 posts)You have to have a high tolerance for unrequited love affairs to care for feral cats.
Over two years ago I started feeding a trio of feral kittens that hung out in the alley behind my house. I set out food for them twice a day, every day, in heat and cold, rain and snow. Two of them never got over hissing at me if I got too close. The third, however, finally tolerated being petted -- with extreme discomfort -- but only after a year of concerted effort.
Then suddenly one day, she flipped a switch and couldn't get enough of being touched. I was going to work on getting her into the house next, but she left before summer started, when I could leave the door open for her. We're pretty sure she ended up as someone's house pet in the next block over. I'd tamed her just enough to make her appealing, and she took the opportunity to be an only child (too many cats in my household).
Now there's only one of the three left, and he only drops by when all his other food sources fail him.
