Related: About this forumSo we've gone from "never again" to this in two months -
Molly, the docile well-mannered girl:And as of yesterday, "Lobo" (an Akita/German Shepherd mix, we think):
Lobo is a former graduate of the IDAPI program, where inmates live and work with dogs for two months to get them well grounded in obedience basics and a whole lot more. Unfortunately, Lobo was returned to the shelter by his owner who could no longer keep him. His training was not maintained during that six months and he's basically a wild card right now. We're going to get him and Molly into a six week obedience class soon. Hopefully, Molly won't be a canine bowling pin for too much longer!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_Jindo_Dog
A few years ago, we rescued what we thought was a White German Shepherd mix and turned out to be a Jindo. They are very smart and learn easily, but they can also be willful and like a lot of contact with their humans (Jindos don't do well being left alone for long periods on a regular basis.)
Does Lobo by any chance groom himself (like a cat)? For the first few weeks I had him, I thought mine had a skin condition. When we figured out he was a Jindo we learned they are 'self-cleaning." Put a muddy dog into his crate and out comes a clean one.
Oh, and that one-paw-tucked under pose seen above is classic Jindo too.
Here's a good site on Jindos if you think Lobo might have a little Korean blood in him: http://www.kang.org/Jfac.html
In any case, you sure have a handsome family on your hands.

(16,926 posts)The big guy seems to have bonded with me overnight. I was told that when I left for awhile today he went into the bathroom and howled at the skylight, and he was yipping with excitement when I came through the door. I haven't seen him grooming himself, but he did request kim chee for dinner. Hmmm....
Here's another shot that shows the dark colors on his back not evident in the above picture:

(1,249 posts)I started on Saturday as a volunteer at our local animal rescue shelter, and my husband has already identified what my biggest problem will be: I want to adopt them all.

(17,276 posts)You get to play with them all, and don't have to own them all. That's what I like about volunteering at my local animal shelter.
