Second link has video.
Police say three men walked into the store with a shotgun. One suspect demanded money. The second one had the shotgun and the third was standing next to the man with the weapon.
Police say the store owner gave his wallet to the first suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the suspect holding a gun. He died at the scene.
The two who were not hit ran off.
So one robber is holding a shotgun on the owner, the owner hands over his wallet, THEN pulls his gun and shoots the robber. That takes a great deal of courage, and situational self-awareness that many people would not have.
But considering we have had two murders of store clerks in the DFW area, one the mother of two:

And the other one where the clerk of a Subway store gave them the money, and then got killed,

Taking a chance of responding with deadly force might be best choice.

(20,886 posts)The headline should read: one-armed store owner vs three robbers, one armed, in Fort Worth.
I know the author was trying to be clever, but correct grammar would have helped. Sigh.

(8,747 posts)I get ticked when others do not use proper punctuation, and capitalization. So I can always use some education where I lack knowledge.

(23,384 posts)Did the store owner only have one arm? That's how I'd parse the hyphenation.
I only went to one of the links, didn't see anything about the owner missing an arm.
It's a tough headline to write and make it informative. "Armed Store Owner vs Three Armed Robbers" would work. The two that weren't armed are still guilty of armed robbery. Maybe except for the dead guy, that one might be moot.

(20,886 posts)Basically, it's a headline trying to be clever and failing.
And, after perusing the links, it seems he had two arms, which negates the hyphenation. Sigh, again.

(18,318 posts)since a long discussion of defensive use of firearms was allowed to stand, probably because it was couched in an anti RKBA manner.

You post 3 examples of store clerks or personnel, where one used a gun in a bona fide defensive gun use (dgu);
Most all gun control advocates would have no problem whatsoever with these people having a gun behind the counter or even carrying it while on the job. They are most likely stable & identifiable, and you don't think we find fault with the store owner shooting the robber with the shotgun do you? bravo to him, live by the gun die by the gun.
It is the ability to carry a concealed firearm or unconcealed firearm wherever one wants, simply because anyone wants to, which is the rub.
There are lots & lots of people, a significant minority of American adults, who should NOT be allowed to carry a firearm on their person, & some who should not even be allowed to own one.
