Under the proposal, gun and ammunition sellers would be charged $25 for every firearm sold in Seattle and 5 cents for every round of ammunition sold. City officials estimate the new tax would collect between $300,000 and $500,000 a year.

(16,974 posts)Looks like a lot of surrounding businesses will get more customers if this goes through. I order a lot of my rounds in bulk online to save money when I see a sale.

What are the odds that he is uninvolved?

(5,417 posts)If I lived in Seattle I would just buy ammo and guns outside city limits. I'll avoid that tax, and the sales tax with it will go to somebody else also.
The only problem is, this is probably what Seattle wants.

(6,185 posts)Pretty soon they could join Rahm and the City of Chicago writing really big checks to the SAF and NRA.
But maybe the voters have a few million to piss away on a losing cause ... or maybe Bloomberg is writing the checks for this one too?

(15,396 posts)Just drive outside Seattle and buy at non-gouging prices.
Face it this is just another way to try and drive businesses out of business. Sad they resort to these kind of stupid tricks...

I think the last paragraph of the linked story is quite appropriate with a substitution of "gun controllers" for "Republican Party".

(139 posts)by comparison, there were 156 fatal heroin overdoses and a total of 314 fatal overdoses in 2014. That's a 58% increase in heroin overdoses in the space of one year. What's nore, Methamphetamine deaths increased 59% in the same year. So, it appears that Seattle doesn't actually have a gun violence problem but does have a rapidly developing drug problem just like everybody else.

(597 posts)Just tax meth precursors and syringes and put the money towards drug abuse prevention programs. A $5 per box Sudafed tax and $1 per syringe tax will go a long way towards fixing the problem.
