Review of a nice kydex holster.

How about an equipment review thread. I have went from carrying a LCP to my newest G2 (more on the pt111 in another thread)

I picked up one of the OWB kydex holsters equipped with the speed clips (my shell is plain gray) I can't tell you how nice this little holster is with the speed clips. I find myself carrying this new gun a lot more than all my "thread on" leather holsters that I normally buy for my CC pistols. It holds close to the side and allows me to conceal a little larger gun with more capacity.

I tried kydex holsters about 6 or 7 years back, and at that time most were "taco" style with paddles or belt loops. I invested in a press, bandsaw, oven, and all the other tools and parts necessary to build holsters. After building a few I decided it was easier just to buy one. Then I discovered leather pancake holsters. Ummmmm leather.

So it took a while but I decided to give Kydex another shot and really love this product. I can't say enough great things about the customer service.

At the range I practiced drawing and beating down the plates, the speed clips didn't disappoint. They hold great and do their job well. I'm thinking of picking up another OWB rig for my p220.

Anyway there you have it FWIW YMMV.

Guard at 'Muslim-Free' Gun Range Accidentally Shoots Self

An operator of the store's Facebook page directed reporters to a statement posted late Tuesday that called the shooting "an unfortunate accident." The statement claimed the man who shot himself came over to the shop to help fix a door in the office "and, as he bent over, his weapon fell from a malfunctioning chest holster and went off when it hit the floor."

Woman fatally shot self while adjusting bra holster

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — Police say a 55-year-old southwestern Michigan woman who died after accidentally shooting herself in the head in January was adjusting a handgun in her bra holster at the time.

Clapp says Bond was "having trouble adjusting her bra holster, couldn't get it to fit the way she wanted it to. She was looking down at it and accidentally discharged the weapon."

Bond was taken to a hospital, where she died

Evidently, sales clerks are not well-versed or trained on how to fit bras in general.

While one was a melted piece of plastic that took less than a week to get in. I still love my hand crafted leather pancake holster (I may write a review of it next) but I'd forgotten I'd even ordered it before it come in. Took 3 months to get that puppy in, but I fell in love with that guy right off the bat.

Man Dies Attempting Appendix Carry Reholster In Milkwaukee

Mr. Phonisay shot himself while reholstering his pistol, and the fact that he shot his femoral artery on the right side of his groin confirms he was attempting to reholster a gun carried in the appendix position.

We do not know, and are likely to never know, is if Mr. Phonisay still had his finger inside the triggerguard of his pistol and accidentally depressed the trigger with his finger, or if the firearm’s trigger snagged on an article of clothing or the holster itself causing it to fire. What is known is that something depressed the trigger while he was reholstering, causing the gun to discharge.

Mr. Phonisay had only owned this hand gun for three months. It is probable that he did not have much training beyond that mandated to obtain a concealed carry permit in Wisconsin, and he almost certainly had no formal instruction in how to use an appendix carry holster.

Use of a proper appendix carry holster and proper technique ensures that you will not point the firearm at your femoral artery. Unfortunately, it is obvious that Mr. Phonisay didn’t follow correct technique, and the gun pointed towards his body, ensuring this negligent discharge would become a fatal one.

While I'm far from perfect, I sure have a perfect safety record with my pistols.

God am I great or what....I amaze even myself sometimes at my greatness.

Of course I refuse for carry IWB and would never carry AIWB....OWB is hard to fuck up.

like that. Basically, the suspect was getting on a Greyhound bus to leave town. The plan was to wear civilian clothes and grab him and get him off the bus without any excitement. Somehow, the partner's .38 lands up on the floor and the passengers are "WTF"? Fortunately, they still got him cuffed and out the door without incident. No, it didn't go off. Fortunately, it was a modern, 1960s, double action revolver.
I would like to know the made and model of holster and pistol, especially the holster, so I know what not to buy.
BTW, have you heard the expression that dog bites man isn't news, but man bites dog is? IOW, those items are in the news only because they are very rare. Kind of like the once in a decade plane crash vs car crashes.

I recommend always using a holster with positive retention. Level 2 retention whenever possible.

Until I got my Primal Option ultra slim kydex. It fits my Sig 226 like a glove.

I rarely carry because I just don't feel the need. Switching from leather to kydex does make it a lot more comfortable and less obvious.

but it's so dark you can't really tell that much difference between the dark gray and black.

OWB leather Galco for winter and any other time when I can wear a vest, sweater, jacket or other covering garment.

The large leather base on the Crossbreed spreads the weight out nicely, so even a Commander size 1911 is wearable all day with no sagging or chafing. The Kydex holds it really well with sort of a "snap in" fit and is easy to re-holster.

Just my .02.
