http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/17017168/libertarians-wear-holsters-to-protest-ga-gun-lawATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Georgia Libertarians (edit - douchebags) are pushing for a change in state gun laws and have urged members to show up on the University of Georgia campus wearing empty holsters.
<snip>
Libertarians want state lawmakers to change laws banning the carrying of concealed guns in most public places, including college campuses. Brian Underwood of UGA's Young Americans for Liberty (edit - morans) says Americans' right to bear arms shouldn't stop when a gun owner enters public property.
UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson says Georgia's campuses are safer without more people carrying guns.

Maybe his mother was frightened by a calfskin once?
I have noticed that many of the same people that don't like the 2nd amendment like Rahm and his supporters aren't too fond of the 1st either.

wasn't state governments that passed Jim Crow laws that infringed on individual freedom. Libertarians are just right wing anarchists. The two are mutually exclusive (if they actually think about it.)
never really thought about it or just stupid.
But then you like to equate all "toters" (which included at least a couple of freedom riders, civil rights activists including a former first lady.) in the same league as Lester Maddox because he had a revolver while the other goons had pick handles.
How good are you at spotting irony?

When defending local gun bans like Chicago, Brady lawyers list Cruskshank first, which was one of those "states rights" rulings. Basically, it said that the states could ignore the 1A and 2A. It also made the federal civil rights laws unenforceable, paving the way for Jim Crow. Civil rights lawyers have been hacking at various parts of it since the 1930s. McDonald v Chicago finally killed it.
fucking ironic isn't it?
(note to jury, I am not saying that gun control advocates are racists. I am not saying they were defending the more despicable parts of the Cruikshank, which have been struck down for years. I am simply pointing out that cases like McDonald maybe the last battle between "states rights" and incorporation. All am I doing is pointing out the irony.)

(54,770 posts)Lester Maddox. If that is not enough for you, check out Ron Paul and some of his newsletters from the 1980s. There are plenty of others. And we all know about how TBaggers feel about minorities and TBaggers love guns.

(5,412 posts)I dislike the libertarian mindset - the idea that if you completely deregulate industry, for example, that industry will just magically do the right thing with regards to everything outside of making a profit.
Regulation is why we have clean water, safe food and drugs, and at least some rules to protect workers.
That said, there is no reason why a man can walk down main street surrounded by hundreds of his fellow citizens while carrying a gun and can't do it on a college campus.
