TRENTON — The state Assembly is expected to hold a vote to override Gov. Chris Christie's veto of a gun control bill on Dec. 3, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto announced Monday.

Democrats in the Assembly lack the votes to override the governor on their own, and Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Union) signaled again Monday he's unlikely to yield.

The Democratic-controlled state Senate voted to override Christie's veto last month after an impassioned debate on the Senate floor, and it took them two attempts to muster the necessary votes. It was the first time the chamber successfully voted to override the governor, who has bragged often about his impermeable veto record.

The bill to include police in the judicial process of deciding whether a person with a documented mental illness can get a gun permit enjoyed broad support in both chambers, and was sponsored by Republicans and Democrats.
