New UK-legal .50 revolver marketed as "top of the line" home defense, with "enormous" muzzle energy.

https://www.umarex.com/products/product-universe/defense/t4e/2.4757.html

It's a CO2 powered airgun, firing a 17 grain .50 rubber ball at 350 feet per second. To put that into perspective, it has roughly 8% of the power of the .25 ACP (an extremely weak cartridge used in tiny pocket pistols).

In this video review, it won't consistently penetrate a cardboard box:

Neither do we. Rest assured that if we did, the homicide rate would be thousands of times higher. Dial H For Hero Jan 2022 #7
So would this air rifle (72 cal, hollow point, 500 grain, 1200 foot pounds) be legal in the UK? ret5hd Jan 2022 #5
Anything that generates more the 12 ft lbs requires a Firearms Certificate. Dial H For Hero Jan 2022 #8

First, it looks too much like a real gun that police (or victims) are not going to know when they see these things.

Second, this is likely just a way of gun manufacturers getting their foot in the door so they can build a constituency to demand real guns in the future.

A paintball gun is literally twice as powerful as this.

Second, this is likely just a way of gun manufacturers getting their foot in the door so they can build a constituency to demand real guns in the future.

In the UK? Rather unlikely, I'd say.

I just can’t fathom the logic that led to the UK’s draconian restrictions on self defense, even in one’s own home.

Only one in 400 people in the UK have such a certificate, so it's legal for them. The other 99.75% of their population, not so much.

Would have even more "enormous" energy as would throwing it at an attacker.
Having read some UK self defense cases however doing either of those could put the person in more legal trouble than the criminal.

Haha. All one has to do is read some self defense news reports out of the UK to see how well self defense plays out in their court system.

Not detachable ones, though.
