https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/feb/03/hand-it-in-gun-amnesty-targets-260000-unregistered-firearms-across-australiaA national gun amnesty has been launched across Australia, with holders told to surrender their illegal firearms or face the full force of the law.
The three-month campaign is encouraging people to surrender any illegal guns in their possession and dob in neighbours, family and friends to Crime Stoppers.
It is estimated more than 260,000 unregistered guns are in circulation in Australia.
Home affairs minister, Karen Andrews, in Melbourne on Thursday to announce the amnesty, said there was no excuse for anyone in Australia to have an illicit firearm.

(18,479 posts)1. In Australia...
...civilians are not allowed to possess automatic and semi-automatic firearms, self-loading and pump action shotguns, handguns with a calibre in excess of .38in with only narrow exemptions, semi-automatic handguns with a barrel length less than 120mm, and revolvers with a barrel length less than 100mm.
Since Port Arthur Australia has had 28 turn ins, buy backs and other gun surrender events. Maybe this one will work.
