Letter: West's actions in Army disgraceful; he wants to represent us?
Tea party politicians have no shame. Here's Allen West commenting on our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. This is an individual who prosecuted by a military court of violating Articles 128 and 134, for acts prosecutors say amounted to torture. He lost his temper with an Iraqi policeman, watched his men beat a man, then fired his gun near the man's head, all out of anger.
He was fined $5,000, and the Army saw fit to offer West a "broken sword" or early out, which he took rather than be disgraced. Now he is in the House of Representatives. Go figure.
I thank him for his service to our country. Yet his credibility falls well short of civil service.

Letter: Right wing is becoming ever more frightening
The Republican Party is getting scarier every day. Rep. Allen West is just another example of how frightening the right wing has become. They don't seem to let facts interfere with their conspiracy theories. He makes a statement about 71 Democrats being Communist, and his disciples claim this can be verified on the Internet, where you find a list of 71 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
Being a progressive does not make one a communist. With this reasoning you can also find many sites connecting the Nazi Party and right-wing extremists.
It seems the only qualifications for the Republicans today are the interests of the wealthy and repeating the force-fed rhetoric where truth doesn't seem to matter, the willingness to sign a Boy Scout pledge and most importantly the refusal to compromise. If you connect these dots the answer is a fascist state.
