Don't know if this is the right forum or not, so the mods can move it if they see fit, but everyone here at DU needs to see this movie, if they already haven't!
I teach at a high school in Las Vegas, and like most city schools, we're a league of nations. Multi-ethnic, and I just love the kids. There's, of course, some problems, but hey...they're teen-agers.
Anyhow, I'm enjoying the first day of summer break by vegetating in front of the tube, and while surfing through the channels, tripped over The Independent Film Channel's showing of "C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America." It's based on the premise that the south had won the Civil War, and how this country would have operated under that scenario. It's listed as a "comedy/drama", but I found it jaw-dropping scary, from collaborating with the Nazi's to make sure the white race stays "pure", to the arrest of Elvis Presley for his use of "Negro rhythms", to the bombing of Canada because of their tolerance for and sheltering of runaway slaves. It even had the US bombing Japan first, 'cause, hey they're not white, so it's OK. It was done by Spike Lee, and should be required viewing by everyone! Even the "commercials" were for things like trading slaves on Home Shopping Network, and for drugs that will keep your ni**ers quiet and compliant. Some of the "commercials" were for products that actually existed, like "Ni**erhair Cigarettes" (sold until the 50's in this country), and Sambo's Restaurants, (open until the 80's). I'm trying to figure out a way to work it into my health classes when school starts again in the fall.
What was SO scary to me, is that mind set still exists...and some if it is running for high office in this country. It's REALLY visable amongst the Tea Party.

(52,791 posts)It's really really sad how little the mind set has changed in so much of this country.
