I'll Have Another to lead Belmont Stakes post parade

From thoroughbredtimes.com: I'll Have Another will not get the chance to bid for the Triple Crown, or run in another race for that matter, but fans will still get the chance to see the Flower Alley colt on the racetrack on Saturday at Belmont Park.

I'll Have Another will lead the post parade for Saturday's Belmont Stakes (G1), with jockey Mario Gutierrez scheduled to be aboard. The decision to lead the post parade was made by his connections, who announced the colt's retirement due to an injury described as tendonitis to his left front leg.

Noted veterinary surgeon Larry Bramlage, D.V.M., a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners' On Call team that discusses veterinary issues with the public and press, said the injury would not affect I'll Have Another in the post parade.

From SI: For a frail little girl and a soon-to-be-famous trainer, it was a love of horses that brought them together. They wound up sharing the ride of a lifetime, basking together in a Kentucky Derby victory that defied history.

Next up is a reunion at the Preakness.

Doug O'Neill and Hope Hudson met on the backside at Churchill Downs during the hectic days leading up to the Derby.

O'Neill was prepping the colt I'll Have Another for the race. Hope, a 12-year-old from Missouri who is battling a rare disease, was getting her first up-close look at the sleek thoroughbreds she loves, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Hope was at the barn today as part of Team O'Neill. I wish her all the best. From the bottom of my heart. - tgs

Three Chimneys Farm and the Make-A-Wish Foundation arranged for Hope to visit Churchill Downs to ride Lava Man with trainer Doug O'Neill standing at the ready. Lava Man is the winner of over $5.2 million and now serves serves as the stable pony for the O'Neill barn, helping take horses to the track. He will accompany I'll Have Another to the starting gate for the 138th Run for the Roses on Saturday.

After that rotten glue-factory nag just sentenced us to Racing Held Hostage: Year 35? argh: If I were there I'd boo him off the track. This reminds me of the Buffalo fans chanting "We want Scott!" after kicker Scott Norwood's Rush Limbaugh impression (wide right, get it?) cost them the Super Bowl. Some say classy. I say wussy.
