Giants establish new S.F. record with 36 scoreless innings..

The San Francisco Giants shut out the Cincinnati Reds Thursday to set a new franchise record (S.F. era) with 36 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.

The previous record of 35 innings was set between May 10-14, 1960. The last run given up by Giants pitchers was the three-run walk-off home run by Derek Norris, hit off Santiago Casilla on Sunday.

-------

Barry Zito, George Kontos and Shane Loux combined to shut out the Dodgers in Game 1. Ryan Vogelsong, Jeremy Affeldt and Santiago Casilla teamed up for the shutout in Game 2. Tim Lincecum, Javier Lopez and Sergio Romo shut down the Dodgers in the series finale.

And Madison Bumgarner took care of the final nine innings of the streak, shutting out the first-place Reds on Thursday.

The Giants have been setting all sorts of franchise records lately, from the pitching led by Cain's perfect game to Melky's hitting, who leads MLB in hits and multi hit games.

Will this translate into success in October? We'll see, but the Giants can feel comfortable knowing it's pitching that wins championships...

they're just bad everywhere... 27th in pitching, 28th in hitting, and 23rd in fielding..I guess it shouldn't be a surprise they have the worst record in baseball..
