Related: About this forumOK so do my fellow DUers think MLB games are too long?
They are talking about instituting a 20 sec clock for pitches. I do not like that idea. For one I think it will light up the scoreboard and will not shorten games
Me I dont think the games are too long. I don't watch TV tho, anything TV drives me crazy. I listen to baseball on the radio and am busy doing other things whilst the game is on. 40 years, old habit. I enjoy the rythym of the games and the radio announcers from across the country
The only time long games are a hassle: I am on the east coast so those 10pm starts are a bother, so a long close game then makes for late nights

(4,516 posts)clock means they will rush too much. Just getting the right sign takes more than 20 seconds.
Also when there are runners on base it takes time to stare them back to base or throw to the fielder..

A 20 second clock is too limiting, IMO. But I wouldn't mind if they put a limit on the number of catchers/pitching coaches/managers trips to the mound each game. That gets out of hand sometimes.

(10,893 posts)this route, they might have to end up arranging it to where teams can re-use pitchers that they've already taken out of games. There are about to be so many worn-out arms. And the thing here is that this won't get people interested in baseball who aren't already interested. Instead, they're just tampering with how the game was meant to be played in their attempt to turn pro baseball into something it isn't.

(2,338 posts)That limiting in-game catcher/pitcher visits would save more time than any pitch clock.
Figuring out how to change up signs with a runner on 2nd should be discussed BEFORE the game.

Should be like football.
Modern American attention spans are too short.

(47,597 posts)Other than the playoffs, I haven't seen a Dodger game on TV in four years. Haven't gone to the stadium or bought a cap or shirt or any other merch in that time because of the blackout.
But if I did care, I might say it takes as long as it takes and don't fuck with it.
But that's today. Ask me again right after a five hour playoff game and I might tell you different.
