Mark I. Pinsky
ORLANDO, Fla. (RNS) The words Christian and horror movie rarely appear in the same sentence, much less in the same films promotional material.
Yet thats exactly what Tim Chey, writer and director of Final: The Rapture, does to promote his picture in its city-by-city rollout.
As the movies poster promises: When the Rapture strikes
all of hell will break loose.
In an interview outside the Orlando, Fla., multiplex where his film is playing on a Sunday afternoon, Chey said hes comfortable with the Christian horror movie label, or even Christian disaster movie.

(40,416 posts)I am always tempted to partake in these affairs, reading the Left Behind series, for instance. But given the expressed goal of the makers of this stuff, I refuse to give them any more oxygen than they deserve, which IMHO is zero.
Of course, there is no explicit mention of rapture in the Bible (that I know of). AFAIK, this is a 19th century concoction.
I wonder how many people actually take this seriously. I am sure that I would not like the answer to that query.
Thanks for the thread.

(49,533 posts)most of the jollies they get are from the thought of seeing all the heathens and non-believers suffer and burn, so this kind of promotion is right in line with that.

(71,265 posts)Me that they enjoy the idea that some will burn in hell. Their opinion not mine.

(49,533 posts)I was having a "friendly" discussion with him trying to point out the absurdities of heaven/hell. I told him that if I were in heaven, and knew that any of my loved ones were burning in hell, then I would be miserable and heaven would be hell to me.
He said that he wouldn't be sad at all, because in heaven he would understand god's perfect justice and therefore know why they had to go to hell.
I got chills when he said that.

(17,671 posts)It was basically three minutes of people walking around looking nervous, a cheesy plane crash (I guess the flight crew raptured out) and a smidgin of banal martial law and crime in the streets footage.
Usually movies try to put the best stuff in the trailer. If that's the best they have it won't even be good enough for MST 3000.
