[div class="excerpt" style="margin-left:1em; border:1px solid #bfbfbf; border-radius:0.4615em; box-shadow:3px 3px 3px #999999;"]Allow me to draw your attention to the value and beauty of marriage. The complementarity of man and woman, the vertex of the divine creation, is being questioned by gender ideology, in the name of a freer and more just society. The difference between man and woman is not meant to stand in opposition, or to subordinate, but is for the sake of communion and generation, always in the image and likeness of God.
Without mutual self-giving, the two cannot even understand the depth of what it means to be man and woman. (General Audience April 15, 2015) The sacrament of marriage is a sign of the love of God for humanity and Christs self-giving to his Spouse, the Church. Take care of this treasure, one of the most important of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples. (Aparecida, 433)
This excerpt is a direct quote from the man himself, but, outside of the obvious homophobia of the emphasis on the "complementary nature of marriage." I want to draw attention to the whole Gender Ideology/theory meme that this Pope in particular, seems fond of using.
The closest I can come to a consistent definition is here. However, this paper seems to talk about historical trends and generational gaps, not sure if the Pope is using this definition.
I will say that it seems like the term is being used as a catch-all term, especially by Catholics, to describe basically all the research and cultural changes that have occurred in secular society in the past 50 years or so. It seems to encompass everything from Feminism to LGBT rights, and of course, all of those are bad things according to Catholic leaders and official media.

(48,181 posts)In this day and age the RCC still wants to go with an anthropomorphic deity? What a remarkably idiotic concept.
The popey guy doesn't like the distinction between sex and gender. He wants a simpler system where everyone behaves according to his rules and nobody strays from his idiotic view of human sexuality.

Very outdated and of no progressive political importance.
As a latin american, catholic insider, this may be the last area where one might expect to see change.
