Religions do nothing. People do things.

Religions have people as followers, so there is always an opportunity for those people to behave badly.

All religions. All people. Humans are not universally a kind species. In fact, we tend to be unkind in many situations.

Don't blame religion, whatever religion you are thinking of. Blame people. They are the ones at fault.

Religions do nothing.

reading a book or having guidance from a priest etc. telling them what to do...it's solely human nature and the desire on the part of most of us to do unto their fellow man...

However, people are capable of the opposite, even people you would not think would do evil. History demonstrates that quite clearly. And sometimes, they do evil in the name of religion.

Those who do good are generally unrecognized, though. Thank goodness for them.

Without religion, good people will do good things, and bad people will do bad things.

But to make good people do bad things? That involves a religion entirely too often and out of all proportion to all other factors.

Often, those thing have been led by people of religion. And all religions have their blame historically. Every last one of them.

I won't go through history, though, and provide examples. Anyone should already know plenty of examples. We all studied history.

don't blame ideas, whatever idea you are thinking of, blame people.

So, for example, white nationalism. Don't blame white nationalist ideology, just blame the people who believe in and practice white nationalism.

Or just religious ideas get a pass?

Do they perform an action? No.

Do they influence people to perform actions? Different story.
