By Carol Cratty, CNN

(CNN)–Law enforcement agents have recovered a rare first-edition copy of the Book of Mormon that was reported stolen from a Mesa, Arizona, bookstore in late May.

The FBI announced Thursday the religious book, first published in 1830 in New York, was located two days ago in Herndon, Virginia, and a suspect was arrested.

The Book of Mormon is considered scripture by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints, on par with the Bible.

Jay Michael Linford, 48, is awaiting extradition to Arizona, where he faces charges of theft and trafficking in stolen property.

Both the book owner and thief ought to be ashamed! Not because it's a BoM, but because it's a rare volume!! Outrageous to sell pages out of it.

To resale maybe, but to simply read, the 1830 book as a reprint is available through Lighthouse Ministries out of Salt Lake City. The 1851 version of Pearl of Great Price as a photo reprint is also available. No surprises if you have already researched the doctrine. Sandra Tanner still runs the ministry/archive.

Very little of the Mormon coinage has survived, a very valuable collectable and sure to go up in price. If you want some, bring lots of money with you.

The original version with all the talk about the people who live on the moon and sun that the Church had edited out? Yeah, great that they got it back.

The famous hat I just don't know. The 'seer stones' to which I think you refer are rumored to be in Salt Lake in a vault. Only they know.
