A Christian Apologizes for not standing up earlier for Jessica Ahlquist

For anyone who needs a review: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahlquist_v._Cranston

As for the apology...

There are lots of excuses as to why I didn’t write about this earlier, but what it boils down to is that it’s easy to ignore things that aren’t happening directly to me or “my people.” Jessica has had the support of the atheist community and it can feel like that should be enough. No sense in sticking my neck out and risking the wrath of people who would threaten a high school sophomore.

But if I honestly believe that I need to love my neighbors as myself, then I need to speak out when my neighbor is being hurt.

So to my fellow Christians? Stop it. Stop the name-calling. Stop the death threats. Stop the angry letters, the whining about attacks on religion, the accusations that Jessica is just a tool. Treat her the way you want to be treated by those who disagree with you.

There are many other religions and this banner was an infringement on those religions also.

and damn straight the atheist community backed her up. One christian out of how many in this country finally apologized, really!

It is too bad the police can't locate the people who have threatened her and bring them to some justice but overall the police and the "christian" community doesn't really give a shit about this young women. The people who threated her are nothing more than cowards and terrorists.

I don't understand how Christian leaders did not denounce the persecution of Jessica Ahlquist when it first started happening.

This woman is calling out christians of hate.
She should be applauded
She is opening up herself to the same hate that Jessica faces.
I have read many posts on DU calling for Christians to stand up to the christians of hate
and then when one does they get jumped on because they did not do it soon enough for your tastes.
Sometimes it takes some people to see the light.
At least they are coming into the light.

Why silence?

Because when a mass of people call you evil, tell you to kill yourself, tell you that they want to kill you, and shout many other hateful things at you en masse, one voice tends to be drowned out, and it doesn't really make anyone feel better.

who didn't nail their decency and humanity to a cross for the Lord. But, as others said, too little, too late.
