Catholic schools’ HPV vaccine ban is ‘immoral’

By Keri Davis, Ruth Dell, Juliet Guichon, Phuoc Lam, Bruno Masquillier, Cory Miller and Heather Meyer

As another school year draws to a close, Calgarians ought to be embarrassed.

This has been the fourth school year during which thousands of our children in publicly funded schools are prevented from taking full advantage of a $300-million federal program to help them avoid disease and death.

Ever since 2008, elected Calgary officials have impeded public health authorities.

You might think we’re kidding. Calgary? The first North American city to elect a Muslim mayor? The education-first city, with the most PhDs per capita in the nation?

and that not vaccinating your kids against HPV will promote abstinence. The "just say no or else" approach doesn't work because people will do what they've been told not to do. That's just human nature, but the bishops don't get it.
