(Jewish Group) How many hoops must Manny Yekutiel jump through before he's deemed worthy to set foot

How many hoops must Manny Yekutiel jump through before he’s deemed worthy to set foot in the Mission?

THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! RESPECT!!

When you wander into Manny’s at 16th and Valencia, everything is chill. It’s a big space. And it’s crowded. People are working on projects, sipping $1.75 cups of coffee, or reading the literature they can purchase in-house from an adjunct of Dog-Eared Books located in the store (curated titles from Franz Fanon, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Howard Zinn and many others for sale).

This space feels casual and accessible. That’s the idea. Owner Manny Yekutiel, in fact, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with United to Save the Mission, a coalition of more than a dozen neighborhood nonprofits and activist groups, to ensure the “community” is copacetic with his “community space.”

The Mission anti-gentrification activists wanted a “bicultural, bilingual environment for Mission families” with bilingual signage here. And that happened. They wanted Yekutiel to hire bilingual staff that “reflects the availability of qualified applicants in the local community,” and the staff here is now heavily composed of local people of color (many are also LGBTQ, like Yekutiel). United to Save the Mission called for “moderate price points” — and not only is the coffee a buck seventy-five, but Tecate runs you two bucks and a meal starts at six. The food here, in fact, is prepared on-site by Farming Hope, a nonprofit employing homeless, formerly incarcerated, and low-income community members — and they earn all the food revenue.

And, on top of that, the MOU calls for “community-serving groups” to use the event space here — for free. That’s happening, too (groups with a bit more cash pay $54 per hour, which is still low).

Seems he has not only done what is required, but gone above it! Personally, I think this is anti-Semitism mixed with homophobia. I know one of the group's is "gay", but I think they are a front to pinkwash the anti-Semitism for these assholes. Nothing better than to get another minority group to do some of the dirty work. This is related to a story Mosby brought us a few days back, Jewish Cafe Owner In SF Told To Get Out.

I can't believe he agreed to all that stuff in the MoU. You know gentrification all really starts with rents, but no one seems to care about commercial real estate sharks. Just speaking in general about the topic, this situation is clearly just plain old Antisemitism.

Gay Jewish owner of San Francisco civic engagement space faces weekly protests

Manny’s Cafe, a civic engagement space in San Francisco’s Mission District, has been facing an onslaught of protest.

Backstory

Manny Yekutiel, the space’s owner, is the gay son of an Afghan refugee. He opened the doors to the community space in November 2016. Since then, it’s been a hub for cultural and intellectual discourse. It has been a host to speakers from many social justice causes, including Black Lives Matter. Visitors are also welcome to peruse the space’s bookstore for titles from authors like Ta-Nehisi Coates and Howard Zinn. The food at the space is prepared daily by Farming Hope, a non-profit employing the homeless.

The protest

Still, this hasn’t stopped a San Francisco-based advocacy group The Lucy Parsons Project from demonizing the space. The group meets every Wednesday since December to protest Manny’s. The reasoning? Manny Yekutiel is a ‘Zionist gentrifier.’

The group’s signs include slogans like ‘Zionists out of the Mission,’ ‘Free Palestine,’ ‘Manny’s = homelessness,’ and more.

The Lucy Parsons Project describes themselves as a ‘radical black queer direct action group fighting anti-blackness in the Bay Area.’

This group has called on the public to ‘boycott Manny’s and its “woke-washing” of the Mission.’

In a letter to the media, the group said, ‘the proprietor of Manny’s, Emmanuel Yekutiel, has unequivocally espoused racist, Zionist, pro-Israel ideals that we will not tolerate or accept in our community. We will not tolerate gentrifiers and Zionists attempts at invading and destroying our community through “woke-washing!”’

Jewish café owner in S.F. faces protests for being a ‘Zionist gentrifier’

Last night, a crowd of some 15 protesters gathered in front of a cozy corner café and bar at the corner of Valencia and 16th streets in the heart of the Mission District last night, shouting “Manny is a Zionist and a gentrifier” and “Free, free Palestine.” One man with a bullhorn announced: “Zionism is a racist ideology responsible for killing and displacing generations of Palestinians.” A few cars and one Muni driver honked in support as they drove by.

Just another Wednesday night at Manny’s.

Manny Yekutiel opened his eponymous establishment in November, calling the Middle Eastern café a “civic social gathering space.” At the time, he told J. that he was “not presuming to invent the concept of coffee, food, beer and wine combined with politics and activism. People have been doing this for a very long time.”

The doors opened on election night, Nov. 6, and more than 500 people came to watch and discuss the results. Since then, Manny’s has earned praise for hosting talks with speakers on issues ranging from Black Lives Matter to urban sustainability.

But every Wednesday evening these days, protesters have staged themselves outside the café, accusing Yekutiel, who is Jewish, of espousing “racist, Zionist, pro-Israel ideals.” His place has been vandalized and painted with anti-Semitic and anti-Israel slogans, according to local reports.

The Lucy Parsons Project, the group responsible, is nothing but a bunch of anti-Semitic bigots hiding behind their sexual orientation, among other things. But then, what can you say of a group that uses terms like "Zio tears" and "KKKamla Harris", YES that Kamala Harris! They describe her as I mentioned and as an "Aunt Jemima." Anti-Semites are disgusting people, and thse assholes are anti-Semites!
