National hare-itage - burrowed treasure from 8,000 years ago unearthed by family of bunnies
A family of rabbits have dug up a gold mine of 8,000-year-old buried treasure near Lands End.
Archaeologists told yesterday how burrowing bunnies unearthed arrow heads, flint tools and hide scrapers dating back to the neolithic age.
It led to the discovery of a neolithic or stone age cemetery, bronze age burial mounds and an iron age hill fort within 200 yards of the Cornish landmark.
Team leader Dean Paton, 30, said: It seems important people have been buried here for thousands of years probably because of the stunning views. Its a million-to-one chance rabbits should make such an astounding find.
They dug two little burrows right next to each other and all these treasures were thrown out of the earth. No one knows the scale of it but its a gold-mine. A family of rabbits have just rewritten the history books.
